Tonie’s Journals

Memories of a Fussville Farm Wife

Retold by her Grandchildren

Tonie’s Journals…

Capture the stories and memories gleaned from the writings of Antonia (Tonie) Claas during the first half of the 20th Century.

Tonie – 1904 – Age 16

For nearly fifty years, Tonie Claas kept a daily journal of the lives of her Fussville Wisconsin farm family and the events of the surrounding community.

In this blog, I hope to bring her journals to life. I will explore the lives and times, the hardships and joys, the simplicity and the struggle of the era which she, her husband and her children experienced.

Tonie – 1932 – Age 41

Her writing was simple. But reading between the lines, I’ve used a bit of imagination to create stories from real events. I give them some context and fill in some of the gaps and emotions that were missing in her stories.

Tonie – Approx. 1943 – Age 54

I hope you enjoy these and more stories that will follow in this blog.
